Professor Tsang , Hon Ki

Hon Tsang is a renowned professional in the field of photonics and optical communications. He is now the professor and chairman of the Department of Electronic Engineering in The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He has published over 200 papers in major international journals and conferences, on a variety of topics in the fields of optoelectronics and WDM optical communications including Silicon photonics and advanced technologies for next generation optical access networks (e.g. advanced modulation formats, integrated multi-wavelength WDM transmitters, low cost photonic integrated circuits for WDM PON etc.); Ultrafast optical nonlinearities in semiconductors; all-optical signal processing; and planar light wave circuits. From 2001 to 2003, he was Director of ASOC Technology at Bookham Technology plc, UK. Bookham was an established "global Leader in the design manufacture and marketing of optical components, modules and subsystems". He served as Chair of the IEEE LEOS Hong Kong Chapter in 2004-06 has been an associate editor of the IEEE LEOS Newsletter since 2005. He is also active on the technical program committees of various IEEE, OSA and SPIE conferences. Hon Tsang was also the captain of the Hong Kong Chess Olympiad Team in 2006 and he was Hong Kong Chess Champion in 2007.

Hon Tsang earned his B.A. (Hons) degree in 1987 in Engineering (Electrical and Information Sciences), and the Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in 1991, all from the University of Cambridge. For details of Hon Tsang, please visit the link:
